Local Spotlight: Horton’s Kids
This week we’re thrilled to share the work of Horton’s Kids with all of our readers! This incredible community-driven organization provides academic support and enrichment to more than 500 kids and teens in Southeast DC.
The mission of Horton’s Kid’s is to empower “at risk” children and prepare them for educational success and career opportunities. Typical service include tutoring, mentorship, counseling, discussion groups, field trips, and summer enrichment programming…but throughout the COVID-19 crisis, Horton’s Kids has pivoted to also provide meals, toiletries, virtual therapy sessions, and remote tutoring.
To support these efforts and others (like virtual family counseling and enrichment programs), Horton’s Kids has established the Family Resilience Fund. And this week, we’re inviting you to make a small donation. Your $35 contribution covers at-home school supplies for one child, and your $50 donation buys 10 books for the Horton’s Kids library.
